*exhale*

and a Quick recap of Saturday before we Dash out (merrily) into the brightness of a sunday to be very sociable (surprisingly so – we seemed to have booked a breakfast, morning coffee, walk in the park, drive to somewhere-to-be-helpful, tea and some Diego-time, then another meeting-up-with-friends – blimey)

last night we happened to be in Los Feliz and saw a large pair (too large, actually) of retro circular blue glass in white frames sunglasses in the window of a Vintage Store and Popped in to say hello, try them on, sadly reject them, but make a new Instagram friend. 296ee804b78e11e3b9060e0eee734f32_8

just before that we had a lovely long Telephone call with william in england when, suddenly, there was a VAST SHUDDERING and we interrupted him talking about the new garden turf over at the Essex Street Pleasure Gardens to say in a small voice:

um, gosh, william – there’s another earthquake.

and it was ever so nice to be on the phone with someone (with a reassuringly deep basso profundo voice) until the shaking passed.

the pleasures and pains of living in paradise darlings ;-)

moving swiftly on.

we popped in to skylight books to visit their copies of the book and *giggled* with a tiny blush to the (apple) cheeks to see it is reclining lusciously next to the naughty section. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a fresh pair of DMs was bought.

the other daywear pair (as opposed to special occasion patent leather one for night-time and Interview purposes) were a Disgrace and we are heading back to England on Thursday (red-eye – the gods protect us from crazy jet-lag) and Must be Suitably Shod. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

are you enjoying the Vivaldi?

it just says SUNDAY, doesn’t it?

*happy_sigh*

must apply mascara (lightly) and get into the car (no surfboard but plenty of writing paper in the console between the driver’s seat and the passenger seat where the messenger bag rides nestled with a small sandwich bag of grapes for the journey – that’s for us, not the messenger bag – it prefers plums).

*waving*

hello sunday.

darlings

how lovely!

it’s       s u n d a y  m o  r  n  i n  g.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

our friends at the Velvet Underground (we adore velvet) sang it best:

oh.

really?

of course.

*sighs*

if you cannot see that Transmission in your territory either ask mr. google for “Velvet Underground” and “sunday morning” or, knowing you (*winktocamera4*), go to your Vinyl Turntable and find the original album – b l i s s.

you know the best things about sundays?

often they come after a night of Reflection and repose and perhaps talking to someone very kind on the beach before sunset and Going Over Things that have happened and getting some excellent guidance (the past is just a story – but sometimes it’s a very sad one) and then laughing at the points in a Tale when one feels a Tiny bit of despair and is reminded (gently) that everything is useful. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAor as the (very much missed) Ms. Nora Ephron’s mother said: “it’s all material.”

which Can be a very dark way of looking at things. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand in another way, rather Liberating.

yes we’re being noticeably Opaque. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

sometimes that is Just for the best, love.

but we *did* take pictures.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAwe always take pictures.

and look around to gather tiny details for future novels like sea glass in the sand.

nothing is wasted.

everything is recorded.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and there are always thank you letters to send out to say how much one admired someone’s directorial debut where they told their own (rather sad) Tale and made it into something much better than it could possibly have been to live through.

which is sort of the point.

can’t waste a good tale.

otherwise it was all for naught.

and that’s Truly Tragic, darlings.

*giggling*

exit left (we’re LATE!)

a sunday morning in los angeles

darlings

this is a deeply *strange* time of year.

everyone is waiting breathlessly for the end of 2013.

winding down.

finishing up work. getting ready-to-fly (if that’s what they need to do).

no one is sure whether it’s still Polite to email about work issues or whether we’d be interrupting.

so we don’t.

we finish what’s on the schedule.

and then – *looksaround* – wait for 2014.

but it’s still *counts* quite a few days away……

so – we’ll take Pictures and listen to Music and Watch foreign Films and Read and take long walks and drives and enjoy it.

gosh.

how about you?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

we adore the foreign films of Christophe Honore. so terribly delicious french.

if you can see this transmission in your territory

and there you go.

music and movies and books and loveliness-with-white-roses for a sunday morning in los angeles.

*looksaround*

y-es.

this is almost exactly how we thought it would turn out.

which is delicious.

as for the rest?

well.

that will reveal itself in time.

*nervouslooktocamera*

we. hope.

watching the rosy glow of dawn from a tan lounger in the desert cities.

darlings

it’s sunday morning at 06:40AM precisely.

we are rested.

and revived.

and ready.

whatever we’re meant to be ready For.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

we have footage “in the can” of z i p p y to edit our little 30s spot. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the breathtaking heat (109 degrees yesterday) has burned (gently) all excess energy away and rendered us Quiet and contemplative.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the dawn this morning was gorgeous – we awoke suddenly at 05:37 – no reason – no noise – odd – so we took the camera and c a r e f u l l y and q u i e t l y opened the sliding doors to the pool-shimmering terrace with the new desert plantings and there it was – the d a w n rising over the mountains. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the rosy glow – a single bird – a strong breeze – lying back on a fabric covered lounger we closed our eyes and felt the sun rise slowly in the sky.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and there it was – morning. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAso we made a (vast) pot of coffee and came back to bed, to write to you.

hello.

aren’t sundays delicious?

7 pieces of random-ness for a sunday inspired by @Madame_de_Pique

darlings

the most lovely Madame de Pique has graciously bestowed on us a nomination for an award, which is Most delicious, *humblecurtsey*.

Versatile Blogger Award

however, we are going to break the rules (and not make any New nominations ourselves) because we have engaged, quite recently, in a long (and some might say exhausting) round of a similar experience of nominating and reading and commenting and being re-nominated and we just can’t face putting people through that again…..

so just because it’s Sunday and we’re feeling a tiny bit jet-lagged but generous – do check out Madame de Pique’s nominations so we can expand our family of aesthetes around the world a little more each day.

Nominations from Madame de Pique

(in a perfectly random manner)

  1. Tiaras and Trianon
  2. the Pragmatic Costumer
  3. Empress Chronicles
  4. Life Takes Lemons
  5.  Saints, Sisters and Sluts
  6. teamgloria (note to self, you’re already here, darlings)
  7.  Splatter
  8. Sifting the Past
  9.  Good Gentlewomen
  10.  Versailles Gossip
  11. Cafe Royal
  12. Education of Madame X
  13. Les Favorites Royale
  14. Edwardian Promenade
  15. WTF Art History

and now our 7 random facts:

  1. a ripe peach with feta cheese (small cubes please) is our preferred breakfast fare
  2. this is our favo(u)rite photograph (taken by someone else) of all time (we have a large copy of it in our boudoir)
  3. celestial blue and slipper satin pink are the most soothing shades and we have accents of both all over our house
  4. we don’t like distractions so we don’t have skype, cable (television) or a facebook account
  5. we long to have a house in new orleans and work with Patrick Dunne on its decoration
  6. we wear three fragrances, depending on mood, time of day or activity ahead: Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, Chanel No. 5 and Chloe by Chloe (originally launched by Karl – may we call him Karl? in 1975 – not easy to find as the market has all the updated ones, not nearly as evocative of estoril, portugal circa 1984, but we just visited a classic fragrance seller in manhattan and found a single bottle which we brought home)
  7. we are slightly scared by writing because it seems to come from somewhere else and is a most insistent energy when it wants to be expressed, no matter where or what we are doing at that moment

and now here are a few photographs from our sunday-back-in-the-city-of-angels (basking on the sofa in sunlight, writing in bed, heading to the farmer’s market any moment – #divine – as one Does in this beauteous Land.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

how’s your sunday so far, love?

and merci to Madame de Pique for inspiring this post.

did you have a delicious sunday?

Well?

Do. Tell.

A delicious sunday?

We did.

In fact it was one of those sundays where we had to Stop for a moment and *giggle* because it was Exactly the sort of sunday that we Imagined when we were very small.

Not as small as this (we are 2.5 in this one)

image

But maybe not long after…..

The sort of sunday where we woke up with the sun – prepared Tea and Strawberries for a fellow Writer friend (this being George.)

image

And he arrived bearing incense from an ashram (naturally – this Is California, darlings and fragrant gorgeous incense it is Too).

image

Then we both sipped tea, delicately enjoyed the fruit and talked a long while…

image

Before heading off to the Farmers’ market where we purchased salad greens and more delicousness for Later.

image

And en route au Casa once more, we saw a chandelier!

#weadoreachandelier

Now the reason we had a picture to hand of us as a small person is because there’s a Meme going around.

No – this isn’t some strangeness – it’s an idea/concept/interestingness going around the interweb where people tell #5curiousfacts about themselves and then “Tag” others to take-up-the-baton (small sporting reference – rare, for us, we know So little – it took a phonecall with Barry on the Other Coast – for us to find out why everyone at the supermarket last night was frenzied in Buying Of Potato Chips. Apparently they go down well watching large men in vast shoulder pads pass a ball back and forth while someone sings the national anthem – curiously enough)

We digress.

The Meme.

So Here Is someone We tagged who shared her factoids + most excellent they were too.

And Here are ours.

image

Would you join us?

In the comments or tag us on instagram and we will come and say hello over there.

But if you put your 5 Curious Facts below we would be Thrilled.

Seriously.

We adore Factoids.

Don’t you?

They are particularly appreciated on a sunday.

to the country.

happy sunday darlings

we slept so beautifully because we went To The Country yesterday and took great gulps of that delicious air, strolled down the little main street (high street to our english friends) with white clapboard houses and picket fences (also in white – probably Wimborne White from Farrow and Ball if our eye was correctly adjusted in the bright sunshine of Connecticut and we’re not mistaken) and so many high bowery trees.

isn’t it lovely to get Met At the Station by Friends? (the J/W and J/W2 of Connecticut) – they sat waiting in a freshly-humming car with the windows open to the breeze as we approached, gift in hand (magic products – more on that later) – we had also dressed almost Too Autumn-ly – tis still a little warm but we are Ready for the long scarf around the neck in fetching cerulean shades and a long black thing from donna-karan to wrap around us while reading in the Train Carriage.

we went straight to Lunch and then took a wander around the town where a celebration (right choice of words? not sure – depends on where one was Raised as they say here) of the civil war was taking place – Quite by surprise (to us – obviously not to the Townspeople who had clearly been planning it for months, right down to the excellent snacks and cannon that shot potatoes)

yes.

there were people shouting on the village green in some re-enactment of events from far-off years gone past. and there was music. we love music. especially live music – a fiddle or two and a winsome voice. especially when we recognize it (Hard Times) from one of our favorite/favourite/choicest movies Elizabethtown – who knew it had such early provenance in the American history? It’s amazing what one learns on a day in the Country).

we digress.

again.

pictures?

of course!

and then we repaired back to the automobile and had tea chez JW1 and J/W2 – but of course it was the fine P G Tips. Some of us are English. Others are just Very Considerate of Englishness.

we sat on the deep comforting sofas with the windows all open to the cross breeze and talked quietly while enjoying the sound of a flute in the next door garden.

a lovely aspect

we said. looking at our situation all nestled between the woods with the magical musical sounds playing.

we almost forgot – just before the chaps drove us back to the Railway Station – we remembered our magic gift.

we had brought wish paper (have you even done this? we did it once in Silverlake at a late-night gathering by the night of the Full Moon and it felt Very Portentous and delicious) – you write a wish on the very thin wispy paper (for our british friends, it is the consistency of late 1960s Basildon Bond Airmail blue) and then light it and it flies up (or, rather worryingly, one of ours just dropped onto the floor and refused to even prettily flame before extinguishing itself – oh well – good to know) – J/W 2 had a Very Good one and it soared towards the trees and then down onto the gravel path capturing flames and dreams into a light lilac smoke. Lovely. Most Satisfying.

at the train station we unwrapped our egg salad sandwich from its splendid wax paper packaging and sipped a Perrier and mused on a lovely afternoon.

grand central station was still shimmering with chandeliers and people-with-parcels (it was still a Saturday, after all, time to stock up on supplies) and we were so energized by our day that we set out on foot (too mellow for the subway, not needing to be anywhere fast in a yellow taxi) and walked all the way down Lexington from 42nd to 13th at which point our feet complained mightily and we continued on, by cab.

but it had been so long since we had taken the time – a la flaneur – to drift down Lex and through the cinnamon hot air of Little India and past Temples of one religion, then another, and see the sunlight fall into twilight.

we kept taking the new grown up camera to try out different settings and found the Film Noir button on the Very Long and complicated Menu.

shiver.

but isn’t it marvelous?

the bucolic to the damned in one fine day.

only in America, darlings.

or perhaps if one had taken a train far into the verdant countryside of Germany and then back to the still-decadent quarter of Berlin one might have had a similar experience.

have you?

gosh.

do. tell.

sunday, sunday.

a well-known cure for melancholy is to have a curry in Jackson Heights, with the splendid high energy BF and explore his neighborhood of pale pink saris, sandalwood and exchange a heartfelt namaste with shopkeepers smiling at our purchase of spiritual Indian texts.

20120304-105701.jpg
Another decidedly proven cure for listlessness is to talk about magic, witchdoctors and my little pony with the sprite, lady-of-letters and her companion.

20120304-105830.jpg
we brought roses the shade of deep creme.

20120304-105914.jpg
Writing is a perfect way to release what ails us.

This is moleskine 129….

20120304-105954.jpg
Packing for Paris is also a smart way to get excited about la vie jetset again.

20120304-110030.jpg
Our restoration is almost complete, with a languorous Sunday morning with novels and the prospect of some shopping for satin items when the city awakes.
now inside caffeine’s dark embrace…

20120304-110337.jpg
And an opportunity to be helpful to someone in the morning…..service heals, too.

So that’s it.

The immigration scariness is still depressing but We are no longer Depressed by it.

See how bloody healthy we are, darlings ;)

How’s your weekend? Do tell.

We Adore hearing from you!

are You having a delicious sunday?

we just exchanged emails with Someone very Glamorous who is en route from one major city On The Continent (as we used to say in British boarding school land) to Another……and we asked them if they were going to be soignée in a cafe or drift elegantly through impressionist paintings……we do hope they Are (hint, dear one).

Here’s our weekend thus far:

20120226-121443.jpg
Admiring shop windows.

20120226-121504.jpg
Cafe creme.

20120226-121527.jpg
Antiquarian book fair.

20120226-121551.jpg
Bubbly feeling post energetic swimming-ness

20120226-121625.jpg
Strolling.

20120226-121644.jpg
thought provoking reading

Tell us about your day, darlings.

And don’t underestimate the power of kindness to soothe a troubled soul….

20120226-121859.jpg

happy sunday, darlings

20120212-083950.jpg
sitting by the sunny view, on a Sunday, waiting for the telephone to ring. Our caller from England is perhaps otherwise detained in a lovely Sunday lunch on some golf course or the Ritz, perchance.

So, time to tell you all about yesterday.

Therapy, brunch with someone V glam, home to rest with magazines and lots of milky warm beverages, swimming pool lengths and vigorous exercise (phew!) and then to see The Vow (soppy, sentimental and rather endearing – best seen in an audience of early twenty something girls sighing at the appropriate junctures – adorable ;) Then to the westside diner where nMp and teamgloria enjoyed a long conversation about Life and more delicious people watching.

Still doing the photo of the day challenge on instagram.

Today is #insideyourcloset (no sniggering from the Other Coast, love).

Why yes.

It is Very Neat.

;)

20120212-084726.jpg
Hmmm.

Still sitting here.

Phone silent.

Off to get ready for a day in manhattan.

Toodles.

As they said in all those delicious 1930s movies with black lacquer floors and white satin gowns.
