beatles covers, mozart mash-ups and photographing scrapbooks.

we *Are* enjoying 2014 already especially now everyone seems to be “Back At School” (for some reason we felt like the smart orphan who had to board during the hols because her rich relatives were in zurich sorting out the family misfortunes and so spent one’s time with the janitor learning how to play poker by the boiler and improving one’s Beethoven in the deserted Music School).

perhaps this would have been our playlist of the last quiet evening before the Trunks thumped into the lobby and the sound of several hundred lace-up Clarks shoes thundered up the main staircase:

and we’re sure we would have spent a most profitable evening Photographing old scrapbooks to look Back (in a good way) and see how Far We Have Come.

the Research into French Films will become clear once we have interviewed and been published on our Next story about a deeply interesting individual (for these films are his principal source of Inspiration, we’ve heard). OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a most lovely dawn. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and this is where we rested for a while to listen to the soundtrack we just shared with you.

(we’re on the Glenn Morrison now – are you enjoying it? wait until you get to the Mozart Mash-up from Egypt! that was a Find and no mistake)

you guessed it.

we Have been Photographing scrapbooks (this is London – circa 2004).

and our most beloved phrases typed out carefully and printed and pasted. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

we see we Referenced that one properly.

and yes, we Do identify. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

gosh. this is the first time we lived in Santa Monica (2004 again). OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

always been Drawn to philosophy it seems. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and heart-breaking poetry…..

this was also from 2004 (all from the same scrapbook, more to come another time) from when we sophie-sat-somewhere-south-of-wilshire-boulevard (the splendid canine bottom left) – who sadly is no longer with us.

what’s this?

who-we-are-in-RL has decided to change her headshot on the Various sites, including the about the Book – ah – the blue-blue shirt – Very Terence Conran, love.

happy monday wherever you are, darlings.

isn’t that egyptian one just Rousing?!

we like to play it on a loop and go back to the Beatles cover at the beginning.

but perhaps that’s just us.

we have no judgement on your music choices.

having some fairly dodgy ones ourselves.

(even more) curiously fascinating spirits on the interweb….

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”
Anais Nin

aren’t there are So Many Fascinating spirits out there on the interweb?

– and we’ve been meeting many of them through the Questions that we’ve all been asking each other in this virtual masked ball of an evening-that-stretches-into-dawn.

and here’s another delicious person-1courtesy of Ms. Beautycalypse who brought her to the party all the way from the ancient lands of where writers lie on a chaise eating ripe peaches.

we’re going to re-read her responses carefully and then go and Visit all the people she suggested (virtually, of course, it’s still 07:30 hours in the morning over here in Los Angeles and we’ve not applied the non-toxic gentle face cream from Boots The Chemist that comes in a little pink pot).

and now we must Breakfast and then look vaguely at the electronic diary to see what the day holds after the dark embrace of caffeine and something remarkably healthy like a grapefruit from the weekend farmers’ market.

we always feel so Rested and ready-for-the-day after an evening listening (some classical, some lyrical-whimsical early Rickie Lee Jones or BBC Radio 4) while sorting and pasting and thinking and remembering and recording for posterity and feeling grateful for what-has-happened and remembering not-to-do-that-again and generally reviewing and feeling good about The Adventure so far.

Some people call it scrapbooking, apparently.

but we’re in Very Good Company if that’s true.

scrapbooking (in a Cecil Beaton way) danny la rue and meg ryan

whenever team gloria feels a bit freaked out, we scrapbook.

not in that martha-stewart-special-satiny-pens-and-stuck-on-flower-decals-midwest-momma-way.

although there’s nothing wrong with that. we’d love to be in a cozy kitchen outside michigan with some ladies from the local coffee klatch talking about school gossip and what-doreen-did-last-night.

rather than eating raw vegetables (yeah, the greek salad/jet lag meal again), reducing, and mentally steeling ourselves for another day in the sniper zone of midtown manhattan.

William and Danny La Rue sent us a DELICIOUS card.

which completely deserved its own fresh page.

you see we have scrapbooks galore.

two a year, on average, since Feb 1998. an auspicious date in the team gloria calendar.

they are a way to not only record but look back at marvel at where we’ve been, what we’ve seen, and who we’ve met……………

like meg ryan yesterday*

*she was walking towards us on houston and sullivan in soho with that unmistakable jaunty loping walk, head to toe in black, cute round dark glasses and a cap. sort of japanese combat chic.

we smiled. and so did she.

we rock, seriously.
