ta da! the thank-you-for-buying-a-copy-wherever-you-are-in-the-world video is Here.

we couldn’t resist.

we just HAD to make a video to celebrate the virtual tour of the book in its first 30 days of sales to say Thank You To Everyone for buying one.

may we also say sorry to those who held up copies and sent us delicious pictures but didn’t make the Final Cut?

we had So much great material that we couldn’t use it all but we really REALLY are most grateful for all your sightings and hashtag applications thereupon (#howtostaysaneinacrazyworld just in case you’d forgotten – if that were at all possible).

ready for the Viewing?

you are so very sweet.

isn’t life completely delicious?

cat on a warm sun-kissed balcony and other thanksgiving Tales of Great Beauty

are you American (or residing here)?

if so.

a very merry Thanksgiving to you.

if you’re not (and so many of us in the world are indeed from Other Places and Other dreamscapes), hope your Thursday is going deliciously well, thus far.

we’re sort of Celebrating Thursday (as opposed to Thanksgiving) to be honest.

not having any childhood baggage and trauma happy memories of Thanksgivings-gone-By, we really don’t know how to participate.

there were a few years when we did attempt it.

but it was Awfully strange watching people get a little tearful (too much pie was the diagnosis but perhaps a hidden trauma as yet unreleased was the reason for Indulging in the pie – who knows what comes first the pie or the pain? we digress) about Thanksgivings they have known – and we certainly fell foul of falling into Family dynamics *shudder* at one particularly memorable (and unrepeatable) meal where we were playing a role that, how do we put this, no one had given us the script for.

actually, there were three of those – different houses – alternate years.

so we gave up.

which makes Americans very nervous (they adore Thanksgiving, even the ones who hate it profess to adore it so).

oh. well, we don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving.

response = slack jaw, slightly manic eyes, unwilling to speak

but we hope you have a delicious time.

the remedy is always to be Charming here and people feel quite mollified for a while while they process (actually that should be “process”) what you’ve just Said.

the shops – we don’t go often but Trader Joes was PACKED last night and we only stopped in for milk but people were quite Crazed buying up pre-cooked caramelized onions and green beans – such a very Strange Combination – were full of people saying things like:

I’m doing the turkey.

which sounds slightly naughty.

we’re going to His parents this year (pauses for effect).

and you just Know there was a Massive Compromise to be made behind That statement because it comes with a pursed lips and a deep sigh.

so back to us.

we’ll be heading to Friends later (after they’ve finished the Meal portion of the proceedings) because we’ve been Promised a Movie and the opportunity to look through someone’s DVD library is always Most Illuminating, darlings – up there with scanning-the-bookshelves, one of our most Favo(u)rite things to do with a raised eyebrow and a small smile on the left side of the cupid bow mouth when one spots That oh and That – most i n t e r e s t i n g.

as it’s Thursday in the rest of the world we’ve done a little work.

in fact someone called From Finland this morning at 0700hours which is deeply glamorous.

then we got back to our Editor in Mexico (more on that, with links, late January, love) and also did some final edits to our piece for Good Housekeeping (oh yes, big league stuff now) for their March issue (in the UK) and then took the 2nd walk of the day (the first was at 0610 hours so we were fully Alert and sparkly for the 0700 hours call with Finland).

you know we *did* take the camera……..scroll on.

we’ve been sending out more cards about the book and thank you notes to people who inspire us greatly to, well, say so. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

this is a house that we walk past often and admire its chinese lanterns.

there was a sound emitting from Every house that we walked past this afternoon – banging pots and pans – most amusing – OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

see the cat?

the cat spotted us. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the last latte before Everything closed down for Thanksgiving feasts. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

bits of los angeles really do remind one of Tuscany. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

or Provence in heavy summer months. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

or Paris in the (very) late 17th Century. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

or dusky evenings in the Loire between the wars. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

palest pink ribbons on black boxes in the shop windows of an unmentionables store. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the sort of boutique where one would purchase (or one’s lover would buy for one) under-the-evening wear to a party where this would be the long entrance up to the Chateau…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

street art with an enthusiastic glow. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and the soft feline that guards the plant shop. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAwe will be taking a small chinese take-out box of Citrus for our friends to enjoy and cleanse the palate post their Thanksgiving Feast.

before we go, we leave you with This:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAwe *wish* we had time to write a review but alas we do not so here are a few impressions: decadence thy name is Rome, sex, deceit, cardinals, saints, nightclubs, faded glories and past mistakes of the heart and body and destroyed lives, wistful, pained, late-late conversations that turn to vitriol on rooftops in Rome, fountains at dawn, dust on the soul, regret, regret, regret – and finally – what happens to writers who do not write (it’s not pretty but god is it magnificent and wrong).

perfect for the night before Thanksgiving when you think about it.

or even before a regular Thursday.

not that we’d know a Regular thursday, of course.

one last link.

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 2.17.14 PM

listen and weep.

sadly none of it is linked there but if you have a spare hour to find a local service near you that contains such beauteous music (perhaps after you’ve indulged in the Thanksgiving feast or a particularly sumptuous thursday supper?), you’ll thank us.

which is what we hear today is all About.

isn’t that just d i v i ne?

like these tracks from the film:

home. sweet. soft linens. lavender scented. home.

darlings – we are HOME!

we arrived home (although you know we are at home anywhere we lay our cloche hat and gloves, of course, being a Citizen of the world and living virtually on the interweb as one does) in L.A sometime *saidvaguely* yesterday…..

and had the Nicest conversation with our taxi driver (and got some tips about visiting a new ‘hood: লিটল বাংলাদেশ = Little Bangladesh because we adore a spicy curry from time to time) and then unpacked (because we ALWAYS unpack instantly and the silver samsonite emitted a sweet fragrance of English washing powder as William said we could do a load of laundry in Whitstable – so very grateful for that) and watched an episode of English Television while eating a quick (brown rice gluten free) pasta supper (tomatoes, spinach, peas and a few saucy slices of light baby-bel with a healthy sprinkling of turmeric) and then slipped between our own lavender scented linens…….

……….waking up a full TWELVE HOURS LATER.

thank goodness we didn’t make any plans, darlings.

such a blissful rest!

what’s that?

that’s when we woke up.

actually, that’s what the clock said (because we were in NYC when the clocks went back for daylight savings and we have an old fashioned battery-powered elegant ladies’ boudoir 1930s style clock which is not connected to any interweb time-changing power source).

so – *coughs* 2AM.

2AM is not that helpful a time to wake up.

but there you go.

luckily we live in Los Angeles.

so, for the second time in 24 hours we asked Mr. Google for a 24 hour diner (you may recall yesterday – was it yesterday, really? when we took the A train from JFK into the city to eat at the Washington Square Diner) and he said: “try Fred 62

so we did.

and it was amusingly packed with young people satisfying their craving for carbohydrates at the counter.

then we took a walk (quite safe here) and became all misty and grateful at Where Life Has Brought Us and that sort of appropriate-for-the-early-hours-of-the-morning-with-jet-lag feeling.

the realiz(s)ation that we had No milk in the fridge (and had just used the last of the mini baby-bel) meant we went to the 24 hour grocery shop (on Vine and Melrose in case you’re ever here and in need of supplies at an unsocial hour) and Stocked Up.

the Technical Term for these is “shelf wobblers” (we know that because we worked in Commercial Content for a time and even wrote copy for a meal replacement bar – we’re very flexible, darlings)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

so happy to be back in L.A! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and then we did laundry, unpacked the groceries.

wrote a piece for Good Housekeeping (March 2014 issue! the UK one! so excited!)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand stood in silence at the window (the one in the living room) and watched the sunrise.

what a truly glorious life.

now we’re off to the Post Office (it just opened) to pick up our mail/post (they have been holding it for us since Nov 2 – at least we Hope they Have – gulp) and the Library (where there are Many pieces of Requested Items just waiting for us!) and then we’ll probably have to crash again as we’re due to meet-up-with-friends later, which is always delightful.

you have a beautiful tuesday out there.

stay warm if you’re in the northern hemisphere and take a wrap if you’re in south africa, just for effect.

somewhere in midtown in a butterscotch and cream moire silk hotel room

well – darlings – take a look at these pictures! – taken from various vantage points of the vast suite that we found ourselves in somewhere in midtown manhattan – at two different times in the day (because we’ve been working Very Hard and not here much).

a very blue (and rather chilly for our california blood) skies today on This Coast – but gorgeously optimistic and sort of throw-your-hat-in-the-air MTM kind of a day. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and just LOOK at this suite, darlings. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

how chic and gorgeous and grateful we feel for such a Palace.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and – yes – *sighshappily* – a chandelier.

we ADORE a chandelier

and take a look at that night-time view – it’s the sort of View that a writer has in the Movies (but only sales people on someone else’s travel schedule usually get to see in RL) – but for tonight – it’s ours.

of course we’re on West Coast time and we haven’t sleep a full night since Friday because we left on the jet plane at 11.20PM L.A time and -oh! the fire engines and sirens BLARING outside reminded us of the FrEnZY of Manhattan.

such fun.

lots to do.

what a deeply curiously interesting new chapter this is turning out to BE.

what we’re listening to…….#singItAretha

there’s a “meme” on the interweb where people share “what they are listening to” Right Then – at that moment – when they’re writing to you.

so here’s ours.

*shivers* isn’t it just Delicious?

and a good companion to our pictures from yesterday IMHO (do you know that one? In My Humble Opinion – #cute)

tight up against a “water feature” at a lovely lunch spot in the Valley where we Talked and Listened and laughed and felt understood and curious about what’s next and so on – the Best sort of Lunch. Thank you, Mo. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

the valley is alive with the fragrance of pink-gold-flutey-blooms. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

when we drive down Laurel Canyon, we always take a little peek at the houses nestled up against the hillside – what are their lives like? and did Joni Mitchell ever pop by for a glass of fizzy italian mineral water in 1967? it’s entirely Possible around here…

another track?

here’s what we’re listening to Right Now.

more pictures?

you are Terribly Kind to us.

we went through the first (gasp!) 158 pages written (that’s double-spaced for our Agent and potential Editors at Publishing Houses to read – it’ll actually be a slim volume because we adore a slim volume) and picked up some loose strands and stuff-we-need-to-expand-on and so forth. a073495897d811e2b74c22000a9f1427_7

the creamy white roses at the farmers’ market last sunday were a tiny bit too green for our taste so we thought we’d Kick it Up (as they say in fashionable circles circa Constance Spry era) and jot a little color/colour/shade into the floralness around here. f362c448987a11e2a23c22000a1f9d66_7

as you can see it makes a delightfully almost shocking accent in a almost syrie maugham paleness of room. ff5c628c981a11e2979522000a9f309d_7 and last night we took a moment to open up the horizontally sliding windows and gaze up at the hollywood hills and hear the slight plip-plip-ripple of the swimming pool in the full moon breezes and just feel completely at home and, well, Terribly Grateful.

during that reverie we turned Pandora to a station of our choosing (start with aretha and nina simone and you can’t go wrong – here’s a little nina for you, darlings)

it’s only 07:36AM and we are almost ready *looksdoubtfullytocamera* to leave the house and drive north – not far – depending on traffic – need to set out early – into the Valley to start our day.

happy friday lovelies.
