we went for tea with mr. eric shaw quinn (yes, the new york times best-seller list author and celebrated radio host) and had to *gasp* as we entered into a veritable winter wonderland (especially glorious on the Coast-that-winter-does-not-visit).

welcome to greater christmasville
and you know – it really was most m a g i c a l.
now this is not the Exterior of mr. eric shaw quinn’s abode – but it was Rather near by and felt gloriously fitting as the Final Shot.
let’s take a moment to watch a snippet of eric’s favo(u)rite film, darlings – just to get everyone in a really splendid mood.
yes, Virginia – there is a santa claus – right here, in Los Angeles.
isn’t that delicious?
quelle delicious evening!
our most Excellent friend Eric Shaw Quinn picked us up in a convertible (Terribly Tinseltown) and we drove down Hollywood Boulevard to have supper at Musso and Franks (since 1919).
we went to Musso and Franks (since 1919) because we were celebrating the arrival of the first part of the Advance (such a lovely word) for the book.
eric was the perfect Companion to celebrate such abundance as he is also an Author (and a New York Times Best-selling Author at that) and so we talked a lot about characters-that-take-over-the-plot and curious feats of imagination and the sheer grind of writing-everyday (but also how delicious it is to live in one’s head much of the time).
while we were eating the thursday special (chicken pot pie) and sipping our tea, Eric said a very funny line – and then picked up his digital recording device and through the miracle of Technology sent it to his cohort on The Dinner Party Show and it will undoubtedly appear in this sunday’s show (do listen, it’s extremely witty).
And then we drove back down Hollywood Boulevards and felt so special to be in an open top car with the lights of tinseltown (and modified-to-look-vaguely-glam chain stores) beaming down like kleig lights making Jean Harlow’s blonde hair into a shimmering crown – we’re pretty sure we spotted a super trooper left over from the most recent Premiere at the Chinese Theatre too.
just like the one ABBA sang about. we really love this whole writing-life.
We are Dashing out, darlings…….
Just three pictures (and a repeat with a slightly different filter/filtre/tone).
But such a happy day.
Tasks and so on.
And then time for lunch (thank you Gym) on a Studio Lot (don’t you just Adore a Hollywood soundstage with grips and electricians and gruff directors and harassed producers and winsome starlets and Everything?)
More driving. More admin. More setting-up-a-Life…….
But always a moment to Appreciate the past (this is one of our pictures from previously – as in 1992 or thereabouts…….no, not of Us – we took it – smuggling an abandoned wardrobe/closet into the back garden – don’t ask – we don’t recall – something about lighting and shadow perhaps – and dressing up our friends in black with stunning eye make up – just a touch of powder for the boyz).
More editing (we have written a YA novel – fingers crossed).
And then tea with Eric Shaw Quinn.
Do watch his Show. It’s splendid. And very witty.
And isn’t that a Gorgeous silver milk jug?
There was a chandelier………next time.
Love being back……..
I was on the phone (baby blue princess one a la doris day movies to give you a mental image) with eric shaw quinn last night (he was on a headset – I’m sure it was a modern one but in my head it was one of those stenographer contraptions as seen in the best of everything) and he told me Say Uncle is available as an e-book for new devices (and in good old-fashioned curl up in bed in your PJs style”book-book”). most exciting. highly recommended. a good read.
