#howtostaysaneinacrazyworld having a delicious book tour – works well with small people and friends-with-fur

darlings

this is the MOST fun that one could have on a book tour – while staying at home in one’s satin slip.

firstly – a note from the Old (Boys – and now fully co-ed) School:

We’ve ordered a copy for the library!  You must sign it next time you are here!! x

*blush* Rather! *throws_beret_in_the_air*

sightingbrightoncollege

so that’s Brighton, England.

where else has the book appeared this week?

let’s see

*thinks*

*clicks*

gosh, well, everywhere!

diegosighting

diego had a moment by the fireside after reading his copy. dublin

Just Add Attitude gave us the 1st sighting in DUBLIN, IRELAND!georgesighting

George even took a copy to La Belle France on his recent trip to keep a copy of his own novel company (3rd in the series, we are not-so-patiently-waiting-for-the-4th)jamieequinox

the book got a workout with a Top Trainer at an undisclosed (although quite clearly overlooking the Ocean) Location here in Tinseltown.

sophiewhitstablemarguerite

because it slightly overindulged in a delicious High Tea at The Marguerite beach hut in Whitstable, created by sophiekarina_judithARoss_sighting

and then took a nap with Katrina at Judith’s house on the East Coastsightinginportugalwithapricotblossom

while Xana (the lovely stepmother to who-we-are-in-RL) held up a copy in a rural part of Portugal while shaded by the apricot blossoms. sightingMsDebb

we’re also very popular (it being mostly a Picture Book you see, and we did think of That when we made it) with small children – this small child is a delightful Resident of the East Coast too and her full name (because we were given permission to share it – is Marlo Paige Knowles and she is scrumptious.
switzerland

and here it is in Switzerland today where it just arrived on a Cross-Continental Flight wearing dark glasses and a suspiciously expensive overcoat and just hand luggage because it has a full set of clothing duplicated in the cedar-lined wardrobes over There.

What an incredible world tour the book is On!

sometimes (because who-we-are-in-RL has one of those “familiar” faces) she gets asked:

are you somebody?

and the other day she smiled (sweetly) and said:

no. but I play someone online.

we Preened in a rather ego-puffed-up (but still pretty) way.

Back to the Post for today.

In Other News!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

there has been a bit of gazing-out-to-sea and dreaming-of-the-future going on….OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand being silent at sunset.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

mixed with some Deeply Practical work sending out (100 to date) handwritten cards for The Digital Check UpOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand actually walking (not fast, but meaningfully) to the postal receptacles (there are two side by side not far from teamgloria towers and we split the pile into two each time, just for luck or something like that).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand then our latest article on Tara Kolla and the Silver Lake Farms came out in Los Angeles, I’m Yours which was ever so nice and well, fragrantly beautifully.

there you have it.

a world tour while we stay safely in Los Angeles (until April 3rd when we fly to meet it in London, Deia/Majorca, Ibiza and London again with Whitstable – yes, with William on the Way Back) when we go to Meet the book and see how it is enjoying the world.

the world is a very lovely place.

is it lovely where you are today?

do. tell.

and is the book happy in your house?

it likes ribbons.

just so you know.

and close proximity to roses.

Miss Vickie Lester has the right idea

about so many things, actually.

well that was a wonderful wednesday. how was yours?

hello darlings

everyone else seemed to be in a somewhat festive mood.

and it was sort of contagious in a very nice way.

3b748dea6d1711e38f8c128fc8a50a47_8

we went to a lovely party (yes, we edited out the people as someone pointed out – but there were lots there – we just prefer “atmosphere” to generate a mood unless one is lighting a face properly and doing a headshot or two and it wasn’t that sort of a gathering)c2c36b626cf511e380301215423c68e1_8

the boarding school (one of two, the other one went bankrupt so it would be unlikely to send out a Christmas Message) was very Modern and sent an email which was delightful. c94264d46da411e3861d0e55fd92b12f_8

then there was lots of taking-the-long-road home after (see below) a delicious Wednesday morning breakfast-with-friends.

(does anyone know why the house on Lookout Mountain has a giant publicity shot from The Women? Mr. google hadn’t a clue but we thought you might). f25a5c446d9711e385e012ed285b77e9_8moments from breakfast.

always especially wonderful when Mr. Diego-the-dog is present.

and despite not being interested in actually celebrating christmas, we have to say we Do enjoy watching other people do it.

especially in French.

so now we’re off to watch this:

because, a little earlier today, we already watched this:

Houseboat

hb-lobby1come to think of it, there are lots of things we like to Watch others do but not necessarily do in RL.

houseboat-end-title-screenof course we’re Itching to get back to writing and who-we-are-in-RL is eager to start the new consulting term and there are photographs to take and deadlines to meet – but only when everyone has finished doing this Christmas thing.

*sighs*

when the weather looks like this:

e6c0fabe6ced11e38e6612704970d118_8it’s sort of hard to take the whole “Holidays” thing seriously.

and don’t even get us started on the “New Year Celebration”.

we’ll be in a convent for that.

did we not tell you?

*winningsmiletocamera*

not under orders or taking orders but quite voluntarily – and yes, we’ll be in black – it’s a habit one finds hard to break.

plus our British Publicist at the UK Publishers (such a delicious word) agreed it would be a good “talking point” to say that one had spent the last night of 2013 in contemplative silence when one is promoting the book.

*farofflooktothemountains*

what’s that?

oh yes!

good idea.

we haven’t seen That for a while.

the last time we got to sing the Nuns Chorus was when we were staying with a friend somewhere (*saidvaguely*) near the Hudson river in, what was it? 2005? yes, NYC. and we both watched the film and found we could harmonize rather brilliantly – but we let him do Mother Superior’s solo – we were the Guest after all – it’s only Polite.

actually, we heard that they don’t dress like this anymore.

The-Sound-of-Music-the-sound-of-mussince Vatican 2 there was a move to more poly-blend-jump-suits in pastel shades in this sunny southern california for the Sisters of Mercy (not the band, although they prefer wearing black too)

*closerlookatthepicture*

actually, if you take off the wimple, you’re right – we dress Exactly like that.

gosh.

how delicious.

did you have a lovely Christmas?

many mince pies?

tea.

that’s the best solution for too-many-mince-pies.

and an early night.

a philosophy of life by diego (or diego and his audition tape for @Bruce_Weber)

so Diego called us (of course, we speak “dog”, darlings, we grew up in England) and said:

“Richard just showed me ‘A Letter To True’ made by that nice photographer who wears the bandana”

Bruce Weber?”

“That’s the one.”

“Did you enjoy it?”

“Very much – in fact I’d like you to shoot an audition tape for me so I can be in his next movie.”

“Oh, absolutely – delighted to do so.”

“One more thing…..”

“Yes, Diego?”

“He shoots a lot in black and white and it’s kinda arty and has a strong message, can you do that?”

*lookstocamera*

“Oh, yes. With your looks and our talent, we can do an excellent audition tape for Mr. Weber, darling Diego.”

“great – Richard and I will see you on Sunday – we’ll put the coffee on.”

beautiful.

so here’s what we did….

after the shoot we let diego look through the Rushes and he turned to us and said, with a small almost winsome smile –

“I like it.”

Relief.

west coast portraits: Richard and Diego

darlings

happy sunday! (is it still sunday in your corner of the world?)

we had the most delicious early morning driving a little way east (not far at all) at 07:45 hours to see Richard and Diego for an 0800 hours breakfast (freshly ground coffee, slim morsels of multigrain toast with a generous spread of marmalade from a garden business we shall be writing about soon when Richard sends us the interweb-link and strawberries).

and a photo session!

you see we’ve been seeing a picture in our mind’s eye of a golden dog and his owner:

partly inspired by Heather in Arles

and also by Bill Blass (we adore Bill Blass and wrote about him, it seems at some length, here)

we had a notebook many moons ago (possibly 10? *vaguelooktocamera*?)

da_book2005note the lovely Bill Blass shot with his golden dog and also the lovely one asleep in the bed next to it (not Bill Blass, as far as we know).

now we love having a friend like Richard because he got it instantly we said “Bill Blass and his golden”.

slight raised eyebrow, half nod, smile – “oh yes……”

which is delicious.

so we popped over there today – had a light breakfast together (Diego was patient and waited, as per the rules) and then we drifted out to the back garden and took these.

aren’t they lovely?

so pleased.

Richard and Diego Richard and Diego Richard and Diegolovely.

thank you ever so much, you two.

just the sort of pictures Bill Blass would have framed (in something surprising yet vintage and possibly Venetian) we are sure.
