rainy day activities in #LosAngeles and thank you darlings @avalonBH

it’s RAINING in Los Angeles!

Screen shot 2012-12-29 at 8.14.20 AM

and COLD.

we’re leaving on a jet plane shortly (but we do know when we’ll be back again ;-)

rainy day activities call.

some driving in the mini cooper, clearly (which we do love but not LOVE because it’s like driving a tiny Tank and we nearly got chopped in Half by the door when it slammed shut yesterday on maple drive).

but the Best rainy day activity is always a book shop.

like this one.

Screen shot 2012-12-29 at 8.17.24 AMbecause we finished Breakfast at Tiffanys on the way here.

so we need something good for the way back.

mainly because iTunes doesn’t seem to have Moonlighting for download (shock, horror, gasp, clutch-pearls).

of course Moonlighting is one of the main reasons we are moving back.

moonlightingCybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis star in Moonlighting.

and Michael Caine, of course.

he still lives here, doesn’t he?

we are sure we’ll become Great Friends.

after all, we’ve shared a pot of coffee with a few movie stars during our last sojourn (2001 – 2006), and we’re Ever so much more grown-up and accomplished and humble and congenial Now.

plus we have a book deal.

and they like That Sort of Thing in this joint.

delicious sigh.

btw (as the young people say), we just got up the Courage to tell certain (family) members that we’re moving back and naturally their first (panic) text was All About whether we still had the big NYC job (no, we’re not mutually Linked In so they don’t know we are a Special Advisor now and doing glorious things for Japanese-owned TV stations and Fashion Companies) and will have a book published in 2013 and the Photography is really coming along now and will be a lovely side business for people who-do-not-necessarily-like-having-their-picture-taken, Oh! and the movies of course (we’ll be Meeting with People as soon as we return about those).

(pause for 7 minute meditation)

we Know that people like other people to Have Security and all that (actually, relying on one’s own talents to get by THRIVE and succeed and be joyously Abundant is probably a lot more Secure than sitting Inside a Corporation these days) but don’t they read the newspapers?*

*did you just get that little pop-up with Mr. Bon Jovi too? we love the Los Angeles Times.

but not as much as we love you.

and – you know – the new apartment in Los Angeles that awaits our return.

time to Pack and leave this gorgeous 1960s-themed-hotel.

thank you lovely people at:

you were delicious.

especially Very Helpful and charming Amber (don’t people have lovely names in Southern California?) on the Front Desk.

george at book soup!

so excited.

george is speaking at book soup….

we Just Received our book soup “e-newsletter” and squealed from inside the privacy of our Day Job office (smaller than the one before, the office that is, not the job).

if you’re in Los Angeles on Thursday March 29th, do drop in and say hello to George

we Wish we could be there. but alas. needed (or at least Expected) in NYC that day #sigh

before we embark on laVieJet once more, darlings.

tea with george (after a panic at the Hotel Pool)

we Are Cross.

we made our way from silverlake – after a lovely brunch at Chateau Marmont and then checked into our favorite/favourite/home_from_home hotel – the Chamberlain West Hollywood – rushed to the roof – jumped in the pool

OH GOD! the bloody pool was freezing.

because the heater broke.

and won’t be fixed until monday.

we leave for (freezing) NYC on Monday.

teamgloria toes – stranded – shivering denizen of grief – curves not tamed – need urgent action

yet – fear not – the flashy health club we joined on the East Coast has a West Coast counterpart – we’ll be driving down there tomorrow with our padlock for the locker, membership pass and the swimsuit in hand.

we know we shouldn’t complain.

but we are a Bit Cross.

thank goodness for george.

we drove round to his place this afternoon, a bit Dejected and Rather Cross about the hotel pool.

george instantly took charge of the situation.

he popped the kettle on, made us some tea (on a delicious tray, painted with farrow and ball’s blue ground) and set out cups, saucers and a selection of water biscuits with brie……and then everything was perfection again.

we strolled around the apartment – admired the view – george’s excellent collection of books and vintage typewriters and – oh! – we had almost forgotten – A divine Chandelier.

we even spent a moment with Plum himself…..

in case we forget to mention it, george will be doing an Author Event at Book Soup (yes, that one – the one on Sunset Strip, isn’t that glorious?)

In-Store Event

discusses and signs On Wings of Affection and Down the Garden Path, the first two releases in his Sam-Pam-Didier Aventures Series

Date: Thursday March 29, 2012 – 7:00pm

we are Very Proud.

so – there’s nothing else for it – tomorrow we shall rise early – take the sunday papers to the rooftop and bask in the sunshine and then drive Across Town to the swimming pool (dear gods, let the boiler not be broken there too or we will have a Complete MeltDown).

why are we getting so upset?

things not going Our Way.

quelle shock.

sounds like something is trying to tell us to Take a Holiday.

or at least, stop trying to control everything.

perish the thought, as Bertie might say.

while we’re on the subject of control – here are all the things we cannot control and which are driving us cRaZY

we hope by writing them down we’ll leave them behind us and manage to sleep….

immigration, green card, finances, romances, interpersonal skills in the workplace, hotel pool heating systems, LA traffic, NY weather, curves, synthroid effect on curves, others’ expectations of what-is-suitable-for-evening-events-outfits, getting a cold, feeling cold, panicking about NY colds/flu, sore scar when it gets cold, not getting our way, paranoia about meetings taking place about stuff we’re meant to be involved in, rent, where to live, what to do next, when “what’s next” will transpire, immigration officials, attorneys, secret emails, crushes, others’ approvals and futility of caring about others’ approvals, seeking calm while drinking too much caffeine, getting more tumours/tumors/Tobias, pain, sleeplessness, noise in SoHo, disappointing others, disappointing ourself

you get the idea…..

it’s all futile.

can’t control any of it.

probably why we have to learn to live with hotel heating systems that sometimes break.

it’s not as if Any of This is to Do With Us anyway.

thanks so much for listening……

how was your day?

anything you’d like to write down and let go of?

it Does Help.

Saturday in Los Angeles: chateau marmont, mulholland drive and browsing at book soup on sunset #bliss

Couldn’t be happier!

Silverlake looked particularly gorgeous in the early mellow sunlight.

Stopped into 1971 (laurel canyon stores) for a newspaper and (more) coffee.

Driving up the canyon…..

…….to mulholland drive.

……back down coldwater canyon to Book Soup…..

Saucy. Subtle. Sexy.

And now we are at brunch at Chateau Marmont.

isn’t life just Delicious?!

a change of plan (hanging out on the sunset strip with director Guy Magar)

we did have plans.

but something changed. we are not sure what happened.

and so we became ready for an adventure and headed to the Sunset Strip.

Which is often where adventures are found.

and there it was…….an author signing at the magical Book Soup.

and we stayed to hear movie director Guy Magar read tales from his memoir “kiss me quick before I shoot”.

if there’s one thing we love, it’s a gifted and charming storyteller.

We bought his book and he signed it for us (our name in RL is one that brings smiles to men of a certain age, being the name of a movie star they often had their first crush on ;)

why didn’t we ask him to write it “for team gloria”?

we feel more real writing this than we do in RL. Even though we are accomplished and somewhat impressive when we need to be.

But to be honest, we are a bit lost in RL.

Which is why we are happiest listening to storytellers and writing and hanging out in the sunset strip with movie directors under twinkle lights with a small decaf skim latte, preparing for jet lag.

btw, THIS is the ultimate billboard.

8730 sunset towers on the sunset strip – this is where you want your big movie release oversize poster campaign.

It’s definitely where we want ours.
