you may recall (if you visit us regularly and we’re Tickled Pink that many of you do – tis Most Kind) that we went to an art show last night
and this evening we went to a Very Different type of art show – and twas glorious – and a stunning combination of sweetness and disaffected Youth and musicians-in-dark-glasses and graffiti-encased-stucco-walls and a taco stand and twinkly lights (we adore twinkly lights) and, we don’t think we’re overstating the case:
the re-emerging forces of Counterculture railing against a decaying world
there we said it.
that’s how it felt.
probably because we were Downtown (very far Downtown – in fact East of Chinatown at what is known as KGB Studios in a complex from 1925 no less – could we Get any hipper, darlings?)
probably not. but who knows.
we even got to walk around the show with the Artist known as Dub Williams (not his real name, of course) and to discuss one’s Impressions with the Artist him/her/combinationOfBoth_Self is such a Rare treat (and could not have happened at the show Last night as sadly most of those collected at Paris Photo are now on the other side of the Veil of Life)
we have to admit we became very Energiz(s)ed by all the Activity and body adornment (are we the only person in Los Angeles who is not Inked? It’s entirely possible……) and painting canvases and drop cloths (note technical term, we adore new vocab) and Inspiration.
it took us back to Camden Town and watching the human/android-like (as in Bladerunner, not the operating system for mobile devices) peacocks outside the Tube Station circa 1988.
something’s starting to emerge.
and we’re here to witness it and report back.
now isn’t That delicious?
do look at this strange and beautiful piece of art that courted our senses and captured the Vast Imagination as we walked by the AFA gallery on greene street today……(tis a saturday – art calls…)
While disturbing and also Rather delicious.
When we are next in Italia (spring we hope – early would be lovely; late is more likely), we must beg (prettily) for a studio visit and rose-hip with honey cakes on a tiny tray (one of those tiered cake stands from a baroque castello).
The artist is divine.
In America at AFA (54 greene st, nyc 10013) in the gallery space right now and in the Permanent Collection thereafter.
In deepest realms of thought and Fantasy and gorgeous-ness on the internet here and There.
while forever in one’s waking dreams…….
darlings, we saw the Artist movie!
it was glorious!
All tap and silent movie interstitials and back lot dreams and beauty spots and brooding glances and lots of pathos and joy and a Vast Amount of L’Amour.
we Adore L’Amour.
we also love a meditative stroll around a labyrinth and a walk with a friend and a Very Long afternoon being creative.
Just purchased more art supplies…..
Mozart and decoupage (with a chaser of depeche mode as night falls before heading out into the chilled night, swathed in cashmere to meet up with friends).
btw, we saw the artist with our friend nP and we were so taken by the film that we suddenly stopped on the corner of Wooster and Houston and said:
did you know we can Tap?
nothing surprises me about you ;)
So we did a moment from a tap routine from 42nd St (yes, the 1930s deliciousness) right there and then – and we laughed all the way home.
tap your troubles away darling.
Or delight to decoupage.
Whatever pleases you.
Because That is Important.
