medical leave: day 9: the first tentative solo stroll into autumnal NYC

very, very gingerly we took our first walk in solitude, pausing to rest a hand against each lamppost.

it hurts to swallow still, and laughing is a risk and coughing a constant irritation and a sneeze frightening, as if our throat will tear apart.

the warm sunshine of early autumn in NYC feels good.

Look at you all modern, and holding lamposts and wearing DMs and being so wonderful and brave and beautiful. You bring a tear to my eye every time i think of you how well you are doing.

Congratulations! Independece. More control. I promise when I see you not to make you laugh (or wear perfume that makes you sneeze)!

    Dearest,

Am so happy to hear about your solo stroll, and what a marvelous, clear, cool and lovely day to do it…a harbinger of marvelous, clear, cool and lovely things to come.

You are on your way towards a glittering triumph!
