great love stories and the naughty bits from plutarch

we write to you en route to europe (from the long island railroad to JFK so far)

on a recommendation from someone splendid also writing out here on the interweb (http://dailyplateofcrazy) team gloria eased open the spine of my mistress’s sparrow is dead: great love stories, from chekhov to munro and settled in with a deep sigh of pleasure to jeffrey eugenides’ introduction on the joys of catullus

passer mortuus est meae puellae/passer, deliciae meae puellae,/quem plus illa oculis suis amabit

(nope, use google translate ;)

ah – brought it all back – the scratch of the chalk on a blackboard, the post-lunch gin-addled elegantly wasted leer of the latin master as he asked team gloria (in a rather pink-cheeked and younger more innocent incarnation) to translate the dirty bits missing from the penguin version of plutarch.

  1. So glad you picked this up! It’s a fantastic read – from the literary to the quirky to the hot-hot-hot (and still astonishing writing).

Be sure to carry a small fan while reading!

(Enjoy your trip, and thank you for the mention!)

do say something - do :-)
