5AM at Canters. watching the sunrise in malibu.

darlings

few words – this is a Picture Post.

we could not go back to sleep so got into the car (quietly exiting the building) and remembered that Canters is 24/7.

a few moments later we sunk gratefully into a booth with a 5AM bagel (whole wheat and marmalade) and a mug of coffee while admiring the faded rock stars who haunt the joint at that hour.

then we remembered we have friends in malibu who are early risers and like to greet the dawn with their vintage (4 years old – an age here) Juicy Couture baby pink sweats (ladies), oversized sunglasses and tousled blond(e) hair (both genders) and then there was us – yes – in black. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

yes – we thought of City of Angels too – do you remember the moment where the angels gather on the beach (probably malibu – maybe further down, at point dume, near where Cher lives)?

angelsand then after all that Uplifting, coffee-cup-on-the-car-roof, camera in-hand, leaning over the railings, admiring the sunrise, talking with friends and being all Lovely and spirit-filled we Blew It Entirely at the Bank.

according to the interweb, our bank had a saturday-opening-branch-in-chinatown (see map for sheer insanity of drive).

Screen shot 2013-01-19 at 2.08.22 PMit didn’t.

and so we now don’t know what to do about the cashier’s check (bankers draft for our english friends) which is due Monday to get the New Car (well, new to Us) considering NO banks are open on Monday because we are all celebrating a great man (and rightly so) and we need to return the rental car (is That going to be open?) on Monday and then how do we get to the bank Tuesday and pick up the New Car (to us) on Tuesday instead.

you’d never know we lived in NYC for (almost) 7 years.

like we don’t know how to Take A Cab.

#sigh

yes.

it all got to us ever so slightly so we came back home and took a Nap.

but wasn’t that sunrise gorgeous?

That was a beautiful moment.

About teamgloria

I used to make my living from writing. And then it all stopped and so I went and did something else, part of which entailed a whole new look from Brooks Brothers (it wasn’t really me, but it was necessary). But a decade later I started to write again (during nights and weekends and frustrated lunch-times and long haul business travel) and one of the things I wrote (or came to me – as I do believe in the whole Muse concept) was a character called Gloria. Gloria was a trainee angel and sat “up there” waiting for her first assignment. To occupy the hours she should have been studying humans and their foibles, she spent her time enjoying the new celestial movies-on-demand channel and became obsessed by Doris Day. So you can imagine the drama that unfolded when she came to Earth. Quite a shock to the system. But Gloria was determined to see Manhattan through the eyes of a vintage Doris Day movie and something magical started to happen – to me too. Because I started to do the same thing and life became easier (and then I got Tobias the tumor which changed the trajectory, for now). There are a lot of glorious people, places & things that help me get through my day – they make my life great – and so I call them “team gloria” (although they don’t usually know that). So I thought I’d start documenting them, and looking out for new people, places & things on a daily basis, and sharing them with you (whomever you are – do say hello. Oh, and tell me who your team gloria is :-)
